1.      New Players: New players without a UTR rating must apply for a CHH Grading Exemption before registering for events. CHH vets players to ensure they meet both competitive and personal standards.

2.      Current Players: Current players looking to move up a division can apply for a rating exemption based on recent results.

3.      Grading Decisions: From 2023, CHH is no longer on the Universal Tennis platform but still uses UTR and past performance to organise divisions. Grading decisions are guided by the CHH Mission, focusing on fostering a competitive environment that promotes player development. Special attention is given to unusual or unorthodox playing styles that may inflate a player’s rating but do not align with the competitive spirit of CHH.

4.      Juniors: CHH very carefully balances the participation of Juniors in Open Age (vs Adult) Divisions (more info here). Junior players are integrated into age-capped divisions:

    1. Division 1: 14 years and older

    2. Division 2: 13 years and older

    3. Division 3: 12 years and older

Under-age players may need to undergo a grading match to assess their suitability for higher divisions and open age (vs Adult) competition. This ensures a fair competitive experience for all, and also to help CHH abide by Tennis Australia’s Guidelines for Safeguarding Children.

5.      Exemptions: Exemptions are conditional and valid for one league only, with clear criteria for continuing participation.

6.      Grading Practice Matches: Grading practice matches can be organised where the grading decision remains unclear based on the above. To organise a Grading Match please contact CHH on 0474 228 745 or via canberra@heavyhitters.com.au.
